Review: Her Dark Baron by Nadja Notariani (5 stars, novella)
Full Description: Amazon
Rating: 5 out of 5
Thoughts After Reading:
I had decided to stop reviewing novellas, because they typically aren't worth the effort. However, I do want to highlight the novella Her Dark Baron. Not only is it an exceptionally good and well put together read, but it's also unusually long at close to half the length of a full novel (most novellas seem to be about a quarter the length or less). It is a medieval romance, and the storyline reminded me of many of Lynsay Sands' works. The hero and heroine marry almost right away, after the hero saves the heroine from a cruel man. The hero has a gruff personality (as well as a dangerous reputation), but his actions show him to be a considerate and caring man. The heroine, meanwhile, is a very sweet and innocent woman who comes to recognize her husband's good nature and loyally sticks with him.Their love develops fairly easily (complete with sensual scenes), and then the final conflict revolves around discovering who is trying to kill off the heroine.
Overall: I wasn't expecting too much with the $0.99 pricetag on Amazon, but was pleasantly surprised.
